Enspired bags €40m to make battery storage think for itself: 'We won’t stop here'

As batteries become the backbone of renewable grids, Austrian startup Enspired is teaching them to think. The company has just extended its Series B round to over €40m as it look to expand beyond Europe.

Vienna-based Enspired has extended its Series B round to more than €40m, adding Future Energy Ventures as a new investor.

The startup, founded in 2020 by Jürgen Mayerhofer, Mario Schmoltzi, and Wolfgang Eichberger, raised the first part of its Series B (€25m) last year. Investors in that round included Zouk Capital, EnBW New Ventures, Banpu NEXT, PUSH VC, and 360 Capital.

The additional funding will help the company accelerate its international rollout and deepen development of its AI platform for battery energy storage systems (BESS). "We are at our greatest peak, and we won’t stop here,” says Mayerhofer.

A battery brain

Enspired’s software acts as an automated trading brain for large batteries, deciding when to charge or discharge power into the grid to maximise both profit and system stability. The platform analyses market prices, weather forecasts, and grid conditions in real time, then uses machine-learning models to predict short-term price fluctuations. When prices spike, the system sells electricity back to the grid; when they dip, it recharges the batteries at lower cost.

Jan Palasinski, partner at Future Energy Ventures, said he believes Enspired's battery optimisation technology is the "most advanced" out there, and was managed by a "stratospheric team that's consistently ahead of the pack."

Global expansion

As Europe and other regions integrate more wind and solar power, grid operators increasingly need flexibility software to balance supply and demand. Analysts expect the continent’s BESS capacity to triple by 2030, with AI-driven optimisation likely to gain ground in parallel.

Enspired currently operates in 12 countries and recently passed the threshold of having 1GW of battery capacity under management.

The company now plans to take its first major step beyond Europe via a partnership with battery provider Banpu NEXT in Japan.
