Last night we confirmed that electric freight company Einride has secured $100m in new funding from EQT, quantum computing firm IONQ, and other investors.

"We have been working on this together with our shareholders for a long time, and it feels really good to announce it to the market," Einride's CEO Roozbeh Charli tells Impact Loop. "It creates trust in me and the team, trust in what we are doing."

Charli, who was previously CFO, was appointed as chief executive May, after replacing founder Robert Falck, who now chairs the company's board.

New York listing

Einride is also preparing for an IPO listing on the New York stock exchange, which could come as early as this autumn, according to Swedish news outlet Breakit, citing a person close to the company.

When asked to confirm the reports, Roozbeh Charli neither confirms nor denies them. But he is clear that the company is working towards a listing.

"My view is that this is a company that has a natural place on the stock market over time, so of course it's one of the options we continuously evaluate and work towards," he says. "We make sure the company is ready for it so we can take the step if and when the timing is right."

According to the global network REN21, investments in electrified transport amounted to approximately $757.4 billion in 2024. This strengthens Einride's position in the market and is something that speaks in favour of a stock market listing, according to the CEO.

"We are a fast-growing technology company with an established customer base that applies cutting-edge technology to drive a technological shift. I can't think of anything more exciting for the stock market," says Roozbeh Charli.

Reaching profitability

Einride's net sales more than doubled in 2024, from around €16.8m to €41.7m, while losses decreased from approximately €90.9m to €57.5m.

Roozbeh Chadli does not want to give a straight answer on when the company will reach profitability.

"I don't want to go into that too much, or look ahead in that way. We will continue to grow in revenue but we will also continue to develop and invest in the business. We have done that during the year and we will continue to do so this year and next."

Layoffs

The news comes despite recent turbulence at the company, which cut staff in 2024 and has seen its headcount shrink by about 20% over the past year, according to Dealroom data.

"That's not something I want to comment on publicly," says Charli. "We will continue to grow with both growth and profitability as our goals."

Beyond autonomous vehicles

Recently, Einride completed a fully driverless and electrified border crossing between Sweden and Norway using its own self-driving truck.

Einride is also a tech company with its own software platform that electrifies other vehicle manufacturers' trucks. The focus going forward is both, says Charli, but with a certain geographical division.

"Basically, we help global transport buyers transform from diesel and manual platforms to electric and autonomous," he explains.

"In between, there is our software platform that orchestrates the entire ecosystem. Then there are slightly different needs among customers. We see that the US is pulling away a bit on the autonomous side, and in the same way, Europe is a bit stronger on the electric side."
