EIT Urban Mobility commits €44 m to early-stage startups: 'This is not a niche'

EIT Urban Mobility is investing €44m over the next three years to back early-stage European mobility startups – after reporting strong social and environmental returns from its current portfolio.

The new capital will go to startups across urban logistics, public transport, transport electrification, mobility data, and health-mobility tech.

“Urban mobility is not a niche field to invest in – it touches the lives of up to 80% of Europe’s population that are living in cities,” said Daniel Serra, director impact ventures at EIT Urban Mobility. “Our results this year demonstrate that when capital aligns with purpose, we can achieve both financial sustainability and meaningful societal impact.”

The fund says its companies collectively hit a 50% net impact ratio (measured with the Upright Model), ranking them in the top 5% globally for social infrastructure impact and the top 1% for reducing non‑GHG emissions. Nearly 30% of its current portfolio includes at least one woman founder.

Since launching in 2019, the fund has backed more than 140 startups, including Germany’s Futurail, which automates rail systems, Swedish on-road charging startup Elonroad, and electric snowmobile company Vidde.
