Family offices – discreet, privately run, and often sitting on vast fortunes – are quietly becoming some of Europe’s most active impact investors.

Unlike VCs, they offer patient capital – a potential lifeline for capital-intensive climate tech startups.

Traditionally, family offices have taken a back seat, investing through venture funds. But a growing number are now going direct, driven in part by a younger generation of heirs with stronger sustainability leanings.

Impact Loop has identified 40 Europe-based family offices currently investing directly in impact startups and on track to invest more in 2026.
