From snake handler to Impact Loop's new managing editor: 'I'm very suspicious of vague buzzwords'

1. You were a reporter at tech news site The Next Web. Now you're stepping into the role of managing editor at Impact Loop Europe. Why did you make the move?

"The world’s distracted, and time’s running out. Climate and impact reporting needs a sharper focus – and a fresh journalistic voice to match. Impact Loop gives me the chance to help build that voice from the ground up alongside an amazing team of journalists."

2. What are you most excited about in this new role?

"Turning Impact Loop into Europe’s go-to for sharp coverage of sustainability and business. More depth, more diversity, more stories that don’t make the front page – but should."

3. TechCrunch, Business Insider… many outlets are cutting staff right now. Why will Impact Loop buck the trend?

"Journalism isn’t dying, but the business model is evolving. It’s less about clicks and more about curating a community of people willing to pay for insights and connections they can’t get anywhere else. Impact Loop is building a platform based on providing hard facts, strong opinions, and deep storytelling — not just generating pageviews."

4. What’s something about you that most people don’t know?

"I became a snake handler at age eight. I gave public talks at a reptile house and got bitten a few times – thankfully, never by anything venomous."

5. If you could have one superpower, what would it be?

"Pausing the global economy for a year. No growth, no extraction, no stock market. Just regeneration and a global redistribution of billionaire wealth to fund climate repair and social justice."

6. You studied environmental science before becoming a journalist. How does that shape your work?

"It helps me ask better questions. Especially the uncomfortable ones, like 'Great pitch, but where’s your data?' or 'Who’s really paying for this?'."

7. What’s the most fascinating story you’ve worked on?

"An investigation into PFAS 'forever chemical' pollution in Europe – and the people trying to clean it up. It’s a massive, messy problem. But solvable."

8. How would others describe you?

"Curious. Funny. Calm under pressure. And very suspicious of vague buzzwords."

9. Most unusual interview experience?

"I once interviewed an aerospace engineer while trying to pilot an electric plane in a flight simulator. Let’s just say the article landed more smoothly than I did."

10. Trump, AI, the climate crisis – a lot is happening in the impact space right now. What's important to keep in mind as an industry observer?

"Cut through the noise. Our job is to follow the real impact, not the hype. We need to continue pushing the stories that matter to our readers and remain laser-focused on delivering high-quality reporting."
