Lhyfe lands €149m subsidy to build huge green hydrogen plant in Normandy

French hydrogen company Lhyfe has secured €149m to build a massive green plant in Normandy, set to produce up to 34 tonnes of green hydrogen daily and help decarbonise one of Europe's largest industrial port areas.

The funding was announced as part of France's new national hydrogen strategy, which aims to make the country a European leader in hydrogen production. Lhyfe's CEO, Matthieu Guesné, said the grant reflects a "strong vote of confidence" from the French government and the European Commission.
The Green Horizon project will be located near the Grand Canal of Le Havre, a major industrial port area. The plant is expected to be completed by 2029 and will be one of the first large-scale production sites for decarbonised hydrogen in France and Europe.

The project is part of the European Union's Important Projects of Common European Interest (IPCEI) initiative, which supports strategic transnational projects.
Lhyfe has been producing and delivering green hydrogen for over four years and has four production sites in France and Germany. The company is also developing numerous sites throughout Europe.
The French government has set a target of 4.5 gigawatts of installed electrolysis capacity by 2030 as part of its hydrogen strategy. The strategy includes subsidies and a dedicated support mechanism for low-carbon and renewable hydrogen production.
