Northvolt's Peter Carlsson starts fresh – secures new funding for AI startup: 'Focus on getting the team started'

Following the bankruptcy of Swedish battery firm Northvolt, co-founder Peter Carlsson and his previous colleague Siddharth Khullar have launched a new company, Aris Machina, focused on developing AI tools for the manufacturing industry.

According to new information obtained by Swedish local media Dagens Industri, the startup has secured at least €5m according to official filings with the Swedish Companies Registration Office. But according to sources, it can be as much as €7–9m, with some money not yet being formally filed.

Attracted high-profile investors

As previously covered by Impact Loop, Aris Machina has attracted funding from high-profile names such as Village Global – a venture firm backed by Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg and Jeff Bezos. German VC firm Earlybird Ventures, impact-focused Planet A Ventures, and Aenu also participated in the round.

The company has set up shop in Stockholm, at a co-working hub that’s rapidly becoming a centre for the city’s AI scene.

Impact Loop has been in contact with Peter Carlsson who declines to comment but adds:

Peter Carlsson, who serves as executive chairman, owns his stake in Aris Machina via the investment firm Ekenäs Venture, which he runs together with his wife Sofia Graflund, former chief legal officer at Northvolt.
