Put pressure on governments, says Pope Leo in call for urgent climate action
In a speech on Wednesday, Pope Leo took aim at climate change deniers and urged governments to step up action against rising temperatures.

The new Catholic leader spoke at a conference marking the 10th anniversary of his predecessor Pope Francis's climate encyclical, saying there was "no room for indifference or resignation" on the issue, writes Financial Times.
"Everyone in society . . . must put pressure on governments to develop and implement more rigorous regulations, procedures and controls," he said in his speech, FT reports.
Pope Leo echoed his predecessor's words that "some have chosen to deride" the increasingly visible signs of climate change and "ridicule those who speak of global warming."
His comments come just days after President Donald Trump dismissed climate change as a "con job" during the UN General Assembly, FT writes.
