Sifted has ditched its longstanding climate tech newsletter.

The Financial Times-backed company will fold any future reporting on the green transition into a new newsletter covering AI and deeptech, managing editor Tom Nugent said in an email statement.

Sifted has been slowly winding down its climate tech coverage in recent months. The London-based newsroom published just eight stories in its climate tech category in October, down from 11 in the same month in 2024, and 15 in October 2023.

“As a tech publication we have to move with the market, and with our readers,” wrote Nugent. “So we’re making a shift as well.”

“Climate tech is now at a crossroads,” he continued. “Donald Trump’s election to the White House sent shockwaves through the global ecosystem, chilling investor sentiment far beyond the US. AI and defence are the new areas capturing the lion’s share of funding.”

Nugent said that Sifted’s reporters had “sensed a shift” from founders and investors, which he said were rebranding from climate to other labels such as "resilience."

After the VC gold rush of the 2021-2022 period, funding for climate technologies has cooled off significantly.

However, there are now signs of recovery, as the sector consolidates and the next generation of startups emerges.

Globally, green firms attracted $56bn in private capital in the first nine months of 2025 – more than in all of 2024, according to BloombergNEF.

Meanwhile, in the US, three out of four climate tech deals in 2024 were for seed and Series A stage startups, signalling an emerging pipeline of companies that could be set to raise big money in the coming years.
