Long known for their discretion, Europe’s family offices are emerging as some of the most active – and least visible – backers of impact-focused startups. Sitting outside the traditional venture capital spotlight, many are now deploying significant sums into climate and sustainability-driven businesses.
Until recently, most preferred to invest indirectly via venture funds. That is starting to change. An increasing number are backing companies directly, often spurred by a new generation of family members with a sharper focus on sustainability.
Impact Loop has identified 50 Europe-based family offices currently investing directly in impact startups, with many planning to step up activity in 2026.
