Restorative, life-giving, regenerative, circular – you could call it by many names. What’s clear is that "regenerative entrepreneurship" – businesses and projects that don’t just reduce pressure on the planet, but actively restore it – is becoming increasingly important.

Until now, though, the sector has mostly flown under the radar of venture capital, at least compared with “hot” areas like AI or defence.

That looks set to change. Norrsken is set to launch a new impact fund focused specifically on regenerative business.

Operating under the working title "Norrsken Regenerative," the Barcelona-based fund will invest in companies taking a regenerative approach.

Talks with potential investors in the new fund are already underway, the sources said, adding that the fund would be led by Marc Jordana, co-founder of Norrsken Barcelona.

'Nothing to share'

Norrsken neither confirmed nor denied the claims.

"We’re always exploring ways to raise capital and invest in projects that make the world better," says Daniel Goldberg, vice-CEO of the Norrsken Foundation. "At the moment, there’s nothing more to share."

Marc Jordana echoed the sentiment in an email: regenerative business is close to his heart, but "we've got nothing to announce at this time."

Jordana has long championed regenerative entrepreneurship and resilience. Even at Norrsken’s Impact/Week event last autumn, the theme of regenerative business – especially in food and agriculture – was prominent.

Another clue appears online. A Google search for “Norrsken Regenerative” shows that Ryan Edwards, an agrifoodtech expert who has led several companies in the sector, has advised the “Norrsken Regenerative" fund.

What is regenerative business?

Regenerative business isn’t just about cutting emissions. It’s about actively restoring nature and communities, creating net-positive impacts on the environment, society, and the economy.

The approach sees companies as part of a wider ecosystem, rather than operating in isolation.
